I just finished City of God by St. Augustine.  Took almost 4 months to get through the 1091 pages, though I was reading other books simultaneously.  This book would form the basis for a study of Greek and Roman civilization in itself.  I'll probably add more details on sections to read if you want a more condensed overview and don't have 4 months to invest in this classic.

My most recently read book that I enjoyed was Dr. Dolittle. I know that it is for kids but I had packed a lot of books away and just found them again after 10 years, and I realized that I had never read the book. I am now reading a lot of classics that I really should have read when I was younger. But it is never to late to read a good book!
