My oldest is 5 years old, is it too early to start homeschooling her?
The hardest thing to remember about our own time, of course, is simply that it is a time; we all instinctively think of it as the Day of Judgment. But all the things in it which belong to it merely as this time will probably be rapidly turned upside down; all the things that can pass will pass. It is not merely true that all old things are already dead; it is also true that all new things are already dead; for the only undying things are the things that are neither new nor old. The more you are up with this year's fashion, the more (in a sense) you are already behind next year's.
G.K. Chesterton - Charles Dickens
Age 5 is when our culture
Age 5 is when our culture begins formal schooling, or kindergarten. If you think of home schooling as "education that happens in the home", then you realize you've been homeschooling since the day your daughter was born. You've already taught her to speak and many social skills. She's probably picked up colors, numbers, shapes from books read to her. So you're on your way. Just add more complexity as she ages. The alphabet becomes words. Single numbers are arranged in a simple addition equation, and so on. So to answer the question, 5 can be an age to start teaching the child to read or to start a few basic daily math exercises. There's no need to rush. If you are reading to them regularly, they're "in school" already and the "book work" can wait until they have a desire and interest in more than a basic letter or shape
