Comprised of several levels, each level's book has 16 lessons.  Each lesson features several Greek or Latin roots and the English words formed with the root.  Each lesson has 3 sections and a review, so you can do one lesson in a week.  The lessons are grouped in couplets so we prefer to study various sections of 2 lessons over about a 2 week period.  A test booklet and Teacher Guide/Answer Key are also available to complete the 3 booklet package for each level.  The material is described well and the student can work each lesson without help.

We began the first level (A) with our 8th grader and feel this is a fine place to start, though it could be started with younger children.  We completed the entire 16 lessons and then went back and had the student review each couplet of lessons and take the test.  The test is then corrected using the lesson book.

The lesson "couplets" are taught as follows using lesson 1 and 2 as an example:
1st day  - Lesson 1 sections A & B
2nd day - Lesson 2 sections A & B
3rd day  - Lesson 1 section C + Lesson 2 section C
4th day  - Lesson 1&2 Review (this is a single section in the book for each pair of lessons)

The tests are also for each pair of lessons, for 8 tests total.

Overall a good resource, highly recommended to give the student wider understanding of common word roots and the origins of many English words.

By Norma Fifer / Educators Publishing Service

This five-book series teaches junior and senior high school students words derived from the most important Greek and Latin roots. Every lesson introduces up to fifteen words derived from two or more classical roots. A dictionary-like format provides all the necessary information, including related forms of the word and sentences illustrating each word's correct usage. Special sections called "Nota Bene" provide information about etymologies and words that might be confused.

Drawings, illustrative sentences, and challenging exercises help students master the vocabulary they need to read works of literature and prepare for SAT's. Exercises based on synonyms, antonyms, analogies, vocabulary in context, and sentence completions not only test students' mastery of definitions but also develop their familiarity with the format of comparable items on standardized tests. Other exercises offer practice in recognizing correct usage. Books D and E also contain an exercise that tests vocabulary in context for each lesson. Paperback, 101 pages.
