Math – 7th Grade

Planning for your math subject is simple since you will follow a lesson by lesson curriculum such as Saxon Math. You should follow the curriculum in order with little flexibility. You can be flexible in how much work you require, the pace for the student, whether you test periodically, and so forth.

You will continue the Math program begun at the end of 6th grade math. Your child may start 7th grade near the end of Saxon 76 or near the start of Algebra 1/2. You will continue with the method used in 6th grade – see the details in that plan. As your child completes Algebra 1/2, you’ll go right into Algebra 1.

When you finish Saxon 76 and begin Algebra 1/2, you’ll find that most of the material in the first 26 lessons is a review of Saxon 76. We did 2 of these lessons a day, using the method mentioned in the Math-U-See to Saxon transition. Briefly, the practice problems of each lesson are done fully followed by the odd numbered problems of the second lesson.

Likewise, if you start 7th grade with Algebra 1/2 and use our accelerated start, you’ll complete it and go into Algebra 1 beginning with lesson 20. The first 19 lessons overlap Algebra 1/2 and can be skipped. If you wait between the end of Algebra 1/2 and the start of Algebra 1, you may want to use the first 19 lessons as a review at the 2 lesson/day accelerated pace.

Be sure to get the textbook and solution manual. Test/Worksheet booklet is optional.
